Detailed methods

Arabidopsis thaliana col-0 seeds were vernalized for 2-3 days, sown in trays in the glasshouse, then harvested after approximately one month. Each tray contained space for 30 plants, and we sowed 10 trays for each batch. Plants were large enough that 1-3 leaves were sufficient to reach 100 g of tissue. For each treatment, 3 samples of∼100 g of issue were collected on the harvest date. Most plants had reached the flowering stage. ~100 mg of leaf tissue in the form of whole leaves were preserved for each sample. RNA was extracted using the Sigma Spectrum Plant total RNA kit, and RNA quality was analyzed using a NanoDrop and a TapeStation.
